Module 11: Zululand and Wild Animals

From Durban to Durban - ± 830 km

Zululand – St. Lucia Wetlands Park – Hluhluwe Game Reserve – Durban

From Durban you travel in a northerly direction to Zululand. Here you can learn a lot about the culture, tradition and lifestyle of the Zulu people – yesterday and today. The 'iSimangaliso (Greater St. Lucia) Wetland Park' is the next destination. Numerous hippos and crocodiles live in the huge St. Lucia Lagune, core of the Park. A boat tip offers the opportunity to admire the thick-skinned hippos and the prehistoric saurians up close. A trip along the dunes that separate the lagoon from the Indian Ocean is definitely recommended. Now, the famous Hluhluwe / Imfolozi game reserve in which the 'Big Five' – Elephant, Rhino, Buffalo, Leopard and Lion – live, awaits. Your accommodation is situated close by. Game viewing in your rental vehicle or in an open safari vehicle, the choice is yours. After two days, hopefully with many close encounters with African animals, your path turns south again, towards the city of Durban. One night in the big city or one of the suburbs completes this module.
